About us

Together we can achieve more: To ensure the long-term success of the project, we cooperate with committed local partners.

The people behind Bosque Azul

Bosque Azul non-profit association

Three years ago, we succeeded in legally establishing the non-profit association Bosque Azul in Costa Rica.

We are supported by ten Costa Ricans who are committed to realizing this shared vision.

The people

We are people from different backgrounds and educational disciplines in the fields of environment, forestry, education, social affairs, crafts, economics, and tourism,  working step by step to develop a model project in the region.

The collaboration

In collaboration with local and regional organizations such as the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Bijagual, the Paso de las Lapas Biological Corridor Committee, the Foundation for the Conservation of Biological Diversity, Macaw Lodge, and others, we seek allies to ensure that our actions are long-term and sustainable.

At the same time, we are supported by several private individuals in Germany who provide targeted assistance to our work through donations and expert advice.

Gespa e.V., which has long been committed to solidarity, partnership, sustainable development, and environmental protection, has become our partner organization in Germany and supports us in many ways, for which we are very grateful.

The founders

Our conviction: Only through joint commitment can the project be successful in the long term.

Mónica Hinojosa-Hall

Mónica Hinojosa-Hall is from Ecuador and has been working as an environmental educator in national parks in South and Central America as well as in Germany for over 25 years. She had long dreamed of founding a “jungle school for environmental education.” Together with her German husband, Michael, she developed the concept for Bosque Azul.

Michael Hall

Michael Hall is a master carpenter and has been working in woodworking for over 40 years. In addition to running his own business near Freiburg im Breisgau, he spent many years leading training projects in house and furniture construction in various Latin American countries.  During this time, he grew very fond of the people, wildlife, and rainforest.

Committed with all our heart

Mónica and Michael are personally deeply committed and have taken significant personal risks to dedicate themselves fully to the project. To devote all her time to Bosque Azul, Mónica left her secure job, while Michael handed over his carpentry business to a successor.
